Peter Griffith
I was introduced to backpacking as a young Scout, spending a week on the Appalachian Trail one summer. Those were the days of rag wool socks and heavy leather boots. I still have my bright orange external frame pack and Gerry stove. After achieving Eagle Scout, I went on to earn an engineering degree and spent many years in technology developing products, managing product lines, and building relationships with customers.
During that time I became an avid backpacker and experienced outdoor leader. I’ve taught youth and adults backpacking skills and lead them on extensive backcountry trips. I’ve had the privilege of hiking all over the Sierra and numerous sections of the Pacific Crest Trail, Appalachian Trail, Colorado Trail, Grand Canyon, Lost Coast Trail, and summiting Mt. Whitney multiple times.
I remember the day I was introduced to the ultralight mindset. At first I thought my new friend was nuts for bringing so little, but then it just made plain sense. Why would anyone want to carry more than they really need? I founded Litesmith to share my passions for simple design and lightweight backpacking with adventurers like you.
